1972. The UN General Assembly designates 5th June as World Environment Day, marking the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Another resolution, adopted by the General Assembly the same day, leads to the creation of the UN Environment Program. To celebrate this event, World Environment Day was observed.
