GATE Financial Assistance (Scholarship) & Fellowship in M.Tech/PhD


The GATE financial assistantship is provided through the institutions which is supported by the MHRD and other Government agencies. The basic requirement to get the GATE financial assistance in masters and doctorate programs is to qualify the GATE exam. So, a GATE candidate with a valid GATE score can get all the benefits of GATE Financial Scholarship / Assistantship.

To avail the GATE financial assistance, candidates must check the eligibility criteria, and then the students can apply for it and secure admissions to a program in the Institutes. Qualification in GATE is also a minimum requirement to apply for various fellowships awarded by many Government organizations. The eligibility criteria for postgraduate admissions with scholarship/internship could be different for the different institutions. Other than M.Tech admissions and research programs, the candidates can also apply for the PSU Jobs accepting the GATE score for their recruitment process.

This GATE financial assistantship is provided on the semester basis for up to 2 years for M.Tech students, while for the Ph.D. students, it is provided up to a maximum of 5 years. Additional assistantships in the form of scholarships, fellowships, etc. might be available through other organizations, such as CSIR, DAE, etc.
In 2014, UGC and MHRD announced that the scholarship for GATE-qualified master's degree students was increased by 55%, from 8000 to 12400 per month. A monthly stipend of INR 25,000 for up to 2 years is provided to the Ph.D. students.
