NI LabVIEW Academy :

V.E.S. Institute of Technology has started NI LabVIEW Academy in collaboration with National Instruments, (USA) Banglore on 9th July, 2013. This is the first of its kind in Mumbai region.

LabVIEW is a graphical programming software which provides comprehensive tools that are required for any type of test, measurement or control application in dramatically less time. After completing this course, the participants will be able to appear for CLAD (Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer) examination, conducted by National Instruments (NI), USA. The CLAD distinguishes basic proficiency in using NI LabVIEW to develop applications. The certification and course work conducted by academy is useful for developing expertise in the LabVIEW environment for career advancement and employment opportunities. NI LabVIEW Academy will provide strong platform for interaction with industries and R & D centers to undertake research projects.

Under this academy, six training programmes on “LabVIEW Core 1 and Core 2 course” were conducted. Total 69 UG and PG Engineering staff and students of Instrumentation, Electronics had participated and successfully completed this course.

The course contents covered during programme were: LabVIEW Porgramming Environment: Components of LabVIEW, Data flow, Troubleshooting and debugging VI, Implementing a VI: Data Types, documenting code, while, for loops, Timing a VI, iterative data transfer, plotting data, structures, relating data: arrays, clusters and type definition, Common Design Techniques and patterns: Sequential programming, state machines, architectures, events, timing a design pattern and event programming, Data Management Techniques: Communicating among multiple loops: Variables, functional global variable, race condition, synchronizing data transfer, File I/O techniques: Low, high and advanced, Data Acquisition and interfacing instruments: Hardware setup, software, Measuring analog input, generating analog output, instrument control: using GPIB, serial port, software architecture, Instrument I/O assistant, VISA and instrument drivers.

E-Yantra Lab Setup Initiative (eLSI) :

V.E.S. Institute of Technology is equipped with state of facility for Robotics, e-Yantra Robotic Lab under eLSI (e-Yantra Lab Setup Initiative).

e-Yantra Lab Setup Initiative (eLSI) is initiative by IIT, Bombay under which colleges are encouraged to setup robotics labs. It is designed as a scalable and sustainable approach that addresses infrastructure creation and teacher training – to create an eco-system at the colleges to impart effective engineering education. This facility is availed to the students, so that they can focus on embedded system, robotics projects.

e-Yantra also organises annual competition for undergraduate students in science. Selected teams are given a robotic kit complete with accessories and video tutorials to help them learn basic concepts in embedded systems and microcontroller programming. Abstracts of real world problems assigned as “themes” are then implemented by the teams using the robotic kits.

E-Yantra also arrange competitions every year for the students where students are under eLSI teachers are trained with different robotic platforms and also participated in e-Yantra teacher’s competition.

e-Yantra Lab is equipped with Firebird V , Spark V , Qu-Bot robots. Also, various hardware, software platforms required to build develop embedded projects. Every year 20-25 teams of students participate in Robotic competition.

Accenture Lab :

“VESIT-Accenture Innovation Center” is a specialized lab developed in accordance of VESIT’s MoU with Accenture. This lab is used by Accenture to conduct their Head Start Foundation Program (HSFP) for students selected through campus placement, faculty development program and other similar activities.

Cloudera Lab :

The Big Data lab of VESIT in collaboration with Cloudera provides a high end distributed environment for Big Data processing. Through which training is provided in specialized area ‘Hadoop’ and projects are undertaken to apply the concepts using Cloudera tools. A 6 weeks course is regularly conducted for Third year students.

V.E.S. Institute of Technology has signed an MOU with D-Link to establish a D-Link academy at VESIT started on 1st April 2015.

This academy will train students in batches which will equip them for better placement opportunities. As a part of this venture a specialized laboratory will be set up in Lab no. 406 [EXTC Dept.] for wireless communication.

Under this academy, our faculty members were trained by D-Link to conduct this course for our students. Total 14 Engineering staff [including 4 lab Assistants] and some P G students of Electronics and Telecommunication had participated and successfully completed this course. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to get industry certification in their own campus.

The course contents covered during programme were:

  • Introduction to wireless technology
  • Radio frequency basics
  • Antenna concepts and types
  • IEEE 802.11 Essentials
  • IEEE 802.11 Amendments
  • Wi—Fi Alliance certification
  • Small business and teleworker WLAN security
  • Basic WLAN Design consideration
  • Configuring standalone AP
  • Standalone operation modes
  • Standalone AP management
  • Introduction to unified wireless solution
  • Unified wireless usageAnd lab sessions on above mentioned.

Following the training programme , 14 participants including 4 lab assistants, have become D-Link certified after clearing D-link’s certification exam.

Language Lab :

The Language Lab was set up in 2012 at VESIT to improve the communication skills of the students through the use of various innovative techniques and strategies while using the advanced software available in the lab. As Brian Tracy has rightly emphasized about the importance of communication in one’s life that “Communication is a skill that you can learn. It's like riding a bicycle or typing. If you're willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life”. To enable the students to attain this expertise in the use of language, integrated skills of ‘listening’, ‘speaking’, ‘reading’, and ‘writing’ was strengthened and reinforced through special sessions conducted by the faculty in charges to empower the students to use it efficiently and effectively in their daily lives.

Language Lab CA3
The sessions specially benefited students who lack competency in English language as it fostered confidence-building for interviews and intra and inter collegiate competitive events.

i Lotus
VESIT Language Laboratory has (i Lotus ) software . This program enables the students to have computer assisted teaching where they learn the language at their own pace and time. The program assists them to learn the correct pronunciation, intonation and pitch. This, in turn, definitely improves the student’s professional skills and overall persona thus endowing him with an edge over others to hold on to prime positions in this competitive world.

VESLit Circle
VESLit Circle, was established as an extension of the language lab, to give further impetus to students who have great love and interest in English language and literature. While the activities in the Lab focused on improving the communication skills of those students who required assistance at enhancing their competency in the language, VESLit Circle was formed to engage those students who wished to engage ardently in literature and language activities and competitions at both intra and inter college level.

Since its inception in 2015, every year, VESLit Circle holds its Annual Literature Fest, The VESLit Week, which marks a week-long extravaganza, that includes online events like story writing, micro-fiction, poetry competitions etc. to offline competitions like skits, debates, elocution, quiz, mock parliament, films, etc. This fest has become one of the most popular events in the institute, and probably among the very few bodies which has events held in collaboration with establishments like The Union Bank of India and The Times of India. The popularity of VESLit week can be witnessed by the huge number of students who participate actively in all the competitions. These events help the students to not only build their courage to speak in public with confidence and poise, but also develop their critical thinking and nurture leadership skills.
