As per guidelines by AICTE in revised syllabus induction program is introduced for first year Engineering students. VESIT firmly believes in inculcating and nurturing good values in its students so that they will not only become successful engineers but also responsible members of the society and nation. Continuing with the institution’s legacy and guidelines by AICTE, an Induction Programme was organized exclusively for the first year students from 1 to 10 August 2019. The essence of this Induction programme was to make the students acclimatise with the college environment fast, familiarise and instil the beliefs and culture of the organization in them and help them to build stronger connections and relationships with other students and teachers.
The primary objective is to inculcate and understand the essential complementarity between 'VALUES' and 'SKILLS' to ensure sustained happiness and prosperity which are the core aspirations of all human beings. The main highlights of plausible implications of such a holistic understanding in terms of ethical human conduct, trustful and mutually fulfilling human behavior and mutually enriching interaction with Nature. Outcomes of this self confidence and establish positive acquaintance with their peers, faculties, and institute.
The Primary activities of Induction Programme
Activities included in the induction programme are orientation for Students and Parents, Universal Human Values (UHV) , a diagnostic test, proficiency modules, sahaja yoga session, physical activity, literary activity, mentor mentee system, motivational lectures, familiarization with institute and department, extra-curricular activity, creative arts. Prominent faculties of the college made this event more inspirational which led to healthy interaction.
Orientation for Students and Parents:
The induction program was inaugurated with an orientation session by Mr. Vivek Umrikar, HOD, Humanities and Applied Sciences for all the students and their parents It was followed by sessions taken by each department for the students of their respective branches where they shared their departmental activities and scopes.
Universal Human Values
A sincere effort was being made by our assiduous faculty to bring a positive change in this direction by conducting various mind boggling lectures using elicitive methodology to initiate discussions around human values of compassion, empathy, kindness, patience, tolerance and forgiveness.
A Diagnostic Test
A diagnostic test was conducted for all the students who had scored less than eighty percentile in their qualifying examination. However, the students were pre- informed that the test would not affect their grades, branch change or any aspect of their admission, placements, study etc. The main objective for conducting this test was to help the students who need special attention in specific subjects.
Proficiency Modules
The time during the induction programme was also fruitfully used to revise and clear the basics of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Mechanics and BEE . Proficiency Module lectures on each subject were also conducted for the smooth understanding of topics once the regular curriculum commenced.
Familiarization with Institute and Department
The students were also acquainted with the staff and the labs of their respective departments. A presentation including the respective department’s achievement, lab, staff and placement details were presented and discussed among students.
Mentor Mentee system
Mentoring and connecting the students with faculty is the most important part of student induction. As per the AICTE-UGC guidelines, mentoring process is carried out from first year itself which will be continued during the whole engineering period.
Motivational Lectures
Eminent people from all walks of life were invited to deliver lectures to ignite the spark of motivation and inspiration in the young minds. Institute’s very own counselling body VESLARC had conducted the motivational lecture on “Stress Management on day to day life”.
Literary Activities
The VESLit Literary Circle has also conducted various literary activities to sharpen their soft skills which includes activities like Debate division, Quiz division etc.
Sahaj Yoga Session
Sahaj Yoga session was conducted exclusively for first year students where they were taught relaxation techniques to maintain their day to day stress.
Physical Activity and Extra curricular activities
For honing overall personalities of the students,mostly student driven activities organized by student councils and clubs. To make our students physically fit various sports activities were conducted by the Sports Council of the College. The freshers were also acquainted with how they can participate in all the extra-curricular activities going on in the college under the guidance of faculty advisors. Students have given free play to their creativity in Rangoli Competition and musical extravaganza organized by cultural and music council respectively.
Creative Arts
To enhance students cognitive and creative thinking various activities were conducted where they enthusiastically participated and were forced to think out of the box and this
sessions continued throughout the semester.
